30.11.2011 - Warm-up show review
Macclesfield Express 30/11/11
How good can this town get?
Thursday night's event set the bar very high indeed. A week ago it was announced by Macc legends Marion, via their new management company, Townsend Music, that the band's new (original) line-up would be making a live debut on Thursday, November 24th at a secret location in their hometown Macclesfield for 60 invited fans. These fans were asked to meet in the Snowgoose on Sunderland Street, Macclesfield and then marched around the corner at 9pm onto George Street to the studio Cabin 5150, where they were treated to a one hour performance in the live room from Marion which included both old and new material. It had been 16 years since this line-up last performed together.
Was it worth the wait? Well on the basis of that performance this band is totally deserving of the success that for many years has eluded them. So long on the cusp of mega stardom, they were plagued by bad luck, bad health and (let's face it) bad behaviour. All that appears to be behind them now.
They all look fit and well (and very slick), they looked happy in their owns skins and with each other and most importantly - played like men on a mission. They were superb, full of magic, new tunes, and more promise than you can shake a stick at. Front man Jaime has lost none of his swagger and charisma, and he is still as nice a bloke as you could wish to meet.
They play Club Academy on December 17th. You NEED a ticket for this one - no argument. They will blow you away.
